Transfer News: Thulani Serero linked with Betway Prem outfit

Cape Town City is reportedly in the final stages of negotiations to bring former Bafana Bafana and Ajax Amsterdam midfielder Thulani Serero back to South Africa.

After spending over a decade playing abroad, Serero has returned to his home country and has been training with the Citizens in hopes of securing a deal that would see him return to Cape Town for the first time since his move to Ajax in 2012.

The 34-year-old midfielder has been under the watchful eye of interim head coach Muhsin Ertugral and his technical team, with strong indications that a deal is imminent.

Serero’s previous connection with Cape Town City’s chairman, John Comitis, as well as his good relationship with Ertugral, could prove to be crucial in finalizing the agreement.

Prior to his move to the Netherlands, Serero played for Ajax Cape Town (now known as Cape Town Spurs), where he made a name for himself, which only strengthened his ties to the Mother City.

Sources suggest that Serero is close to signing with Cape Town City as a free agent after his recent departure from Khor Fakkan in the UAE Pro League.

If the deal goes through, Serero’s extensive experience could prove invaluable to the relatively young City squad. His leadership, technical skill, and vast international experience could provide a significant boost, especially as the team aims to secure a spot in next season’s CAF inter-club competitions.
