Transfer News: SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews has revealed the reason behind strikers move to Chiefs

Tashreeq Morris‘ transfer to Kaizer Chiefs came as a surprise to many and the details of the move have been revealed by SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews, stating that the club couldn’t match even half of the salary offer presented by the Soweto giants.

The 30-year-old former Ajax Cape Town, Cape Town City and Sekhukhune United striker had joined SuperSport on a free transfer just four months prior and scored twice in ten appearances. However, when Chiefs came knocking, Morris presented SuperSport management with an offer they couldn’t refuse – or even match.

According to an article on FarPost, Matthews explained, “Morris came at the age of 31 and said Kaizer Chiefs want me, and this is what they’ve offered me. And I couldn’t offer him half of what they offered,”.

“So, should I have a miserable Tashreeq who resents the fact that he could have been somewhere, earning more than double [of his salary at SuperSport]? Asked the SuperSport boss.

Meanwhile, Matthews is optimistic about the arrival of Christian Saile, who joined SuperSport as part of a swap deal. He believes Saile will bring much-needed pace to the team’s attack, something their other strikers lacked.

“So, you look at the situation and say, okay, how can I benefit the club? How can I benefit the team?,” Matthews added.

“So, here’s a 31-year-old who I signed on a short-term contract. Okay, and we’ve got other number 9s like [Samir] Nurkovic and Bradley [Grobler], but I don’t have someone like [Christian] Saile that can go behind [the defence].

“He can get behind the defence, he can break the line, he’s got that added pace which Nurkovic and Bradley do not have. So, for me, I’m going to be practical. Morris, Bradley and Nurkovic together, all three, none of them had pace.”
