In a significant blow to their transfer aspirations, Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly missed out on securing the highly-rated Marumo Gallants midfielder who is now poised to join arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.
This development marks a notable victory for the Buccaneers in the ongoing Soweto derby beyond the pitch.
According to FARPost, Masindi Nemtajela is on his way to the Mighty Buccaneers. The midfielder has been a standout performer for Bahlabane ba Ntwa since his arrival in August 2023.
This season alone, he has made 19 appearances across all competitions, contributing a goal and an assist. His consistent displays have not gone unnoticed, particularly since the arrival of coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, who succeeded Dan Malesela at the Bloemfontein-based club.

His impressive form recently earned him a call-up to the Bafana Bafana CHAN squad, participating in the successful qualification campaign against Malawi.
South Africa triumphed 2-1 on aggregate, securing their spot in the CHAN tournament finals scheduled for August 2025 across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
While Kaizer Chiefs did express genuine interest in the Bafana Bafana international, sources indicate that their offer ultimately fell short of securing Nemtajela’s signature.
In recent days, the Glamour Boys reportedly made a late push to divert the player to Naturena, but they were unable to match the compelling five-year deal tabled by Orlando Pirates.
Although other clubs like Sekhukhune United and Stellenbosch FC also made inquiries, the battle for Nemtajela’s services ultimately became a two-horse race between the Soweto giants, with the Sea Robbers emerging victorious.
An agreement in principle has reportedly been reached between Nemtajela and Pirates, with the official signing expected in the coming days pending a final review of the offer by his camp.
Before his anticipated move, Nemtajela is expected to play a pivotal role in Marumo Gallants’ final Betway Premiership match of the season. Gallants are currently in 10th place on the log with 31 points from 27 games, level on points with Chippa United (8th) and Kaizer Chiefs (9th).
They are still vying for a coveted top-eight finish. Their crucial away fixture against Magesi FC is scheduled for Saturday, May 24, 2025.
