Transfer News: Marumo Gallants Poach Orlando Pirates Target on Short-Term Deal

Marumo Gallants have made a significant statement in the Betway Premiership, securing the services of highly experienced winger Jaisen Clifford on a one-year contract.

This move sees Gallants land a player who was reportedly a transfer target for Betway Premiership giants Orlando Pirates, adding considerable attacking prowess and international experience to their squad.

The 29-year-old Clifford joins Gallants as a free agent after his contract with Bulgarian outfit Etar Veliko Tarnovo expired on June 30, 2025. He had only joined the Bulgarian side in March of this year.

His availability sparked interest from several clubs, with Orlando Pirates reportedly exploring a move to bolster their wide options, indicating the high regard in which Clifford is held.

Clifford’s recent form, particularly during a productive loan spell at Sportist Svoge in Bulgaria, underscores his value. He impressed with seven goals and one assist in 33 appearances across all competitions, performances that not only caught the eye of European clubs but also seemingly put him on the radar of the Buccaneers.

A versatile attacker capable of operating effectively on both flanks, Clifford’s football journey began in South Africa at the SuperSport United youth academy. His career quickly took an international turn in 2015 when he moved abroad to sign for Gudja United in Malta.

Since then, his career has been a true European odyssey, featuring spells at Mqabba FC (Malta), and a particularly successful stint at Lithuanian club Stumbras, where he was instrumental in their 2017 Lithuanian Cup triumph. His travels also include playing for Condeixa (Portugal), a brief return to South Africa with Cape Town All-Stars, and FC Van (Armenia).

Now, back on South African soil, Jaisen Clifford is poised to inject his wealth of international experience, attacking flair, and proven goal-scoring ability into the Marumo Gallants squad. His arrival signals Gallants’ serious intent in their campaign for Betway Premiership success, and fans will be eager to see the impact in the highly anticipated 2025/26 campaign.
