Liverpool fans have more reason to dread the potential departure of Mohamed Salah at the end of the current season.
Reports from Spain suggest there is growing confidence that the Egyptian will move to Saudi Arabia, with claims hinting at a surprising club securing his services.
Salah has been in scintillating form, contributing a goal or assist every 61.3 minutes over 28 appearances in the 2024/25 season, with 21 goals and 17 assists. His performances have underscored what a significant loss he would be for Liverpool should he leave as a free agent this summer.
Despite Salah’s preference for a new contract with Liverpool, the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, have not yet secured an extension, leaving Salah free to sign a pre-contract agreement with an international team.
Saudi clubs are reportedly the most interested parties, with Al-Ittihad previously having their 150 million pounds offer for Salah rejected in the summer of 2023.
Recent speculation has linked Al-Hilal with Salah, seeing him as a replacement for Neymar, whose contract is ending. Both clubs are part of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) portfolio, alongside Al-Ahli and Al Nassr.
Surprisingly, Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq have also entered the fray, with Egyptian media claiming they intend to sign Salah alongside fellow Egyptian, Ahmed Sayed Zizo.
A source close to Zizo told Dostor, “Al-Ettifaq’s management informed Zizo of their intention to submit an official offer to sign Mohamed Salah for free at the end of the season when his contract with Liverpool expires.”
However, contrary to these reports, sources close to Salah indicate he has no plans to move to Saudi Arabia, preferring to continue his career in Europe if a new deal with Liverpool isn’t secured.
Transfer expert Rudy Galetti stated that Salah might consider Paris Saint-Germain as an alternative.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are in ongoing negotiations with Salah, hoping to finalize an agreement soon. The club also face interest in other stars; they anticipate a significant bid for Darwin Nunez this transfer window.
In terms of replacements, should Salah leave, Liverpool have been observing Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.
However, Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who has expressed a desire to leave, won’t be heading to Anfield as his next move seems elsewhere.
