Kaizer Chiefs continues with their squad overhaul in preparation for the upcoming season, with Bongani Sam being announced as the most recent player to part ways with the team.

The 28-year-old left-back joined Amakhosi at the start of the 2024/25 season from Orlando Pirates but having spent spent the previous season with Moroka Swallows on loan.

He was never featured in an official match after he picked up a serious injury during the club’s preseason camp in Turkey.

His departure did not come as a surprise as the club recently strengthened the left-back position with Nkanyiso Shinga who impressed during the Toyota Cup match against Asante Kotoko.

Shinga will compete for a place in the starting lineup with Bradley Cross, Happy Mashiane, Aden McCarthy and another new recruit, Paseka Mako.

“After just one season, Kaizer Chiefs have amicably agreed to part ways with defender Bongani Sam. The Gqeberha native joined the team from Orlando Pirates in July 2024. Wishing Bongani all the best,” the club wrote on its social media platforms.

The Nasreddine Nabi-led team will kickstart their Betway Premiership campaign with a visit to the Western Cape against Stellenbosch FC on 10 August.
