TRANSFER NEWS: Kaizer Chiefs announce Edmilson Dove departure

As part of their preparations for the upcoming season, Kaizer Chiefs have announced that defender Edmilson Dove will leave the club upon the expiration of his contract at the end of June.

The defender becomes the fourth player to depart Amakhosi with Ranga Chivaviro, Njabulo Blom and Sabelo Radebe having been confirmed earlier.

The Mozambican joined Chiefs in 2022 from UD Songo and was featured in 56 matches across all competitions. He provided stability to the club’s defence when he returned from injury after the recently purchased left-back Bradley Cross experienced struggles.

“Kaizer Chiefs and defender Edmilson Dove will part ways when his contract expires at the end of June. The Mozambican international, who joined Amakhosi in August 2022 after spending six months with UD Songo in Mozambique, became an integral part of the team,” reads a statement that was released by the club.

Dove was a regular feature in the squad that lifted the Nedbank Cup last season, ultimately ending the 10-year-long trophy drought.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Edmilson for his contribution to Kaizer Chiefs and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”

Coach Nasreddine Nabi experienced a slow start to his campaign with Amakhosi finishing ninth on the Betway Premiership standings with 32 points after winning eight games, playing eight draws and experiencing 12 losses in 28 league games.

He blamed the poor results on the lack of quality from his squad. He has been spotted scouting in various countries, including Tanzania and Morocco.

Orlando Pirates duo of Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane are rumoured to have been signed by Chiefs. Mako will replace Dove in the left-back position but will face strong competition from Cross, Happy Mashiane and the recently promoted Aden McCarthy.
