Jobe Bellingham has reportedly decided to join Borussia Dortmund, paving the way for an exciting new chapter in his career.
Reports from Sky Germany and BILD confirmed that the Black Cats’ star has chosen to follow in the footsteps of his older brother, Jude, who previously starred for the German giants.
Borussia Dortmund have been notified by Bellingham’s representatives and are now set to negotiate a transfer fee with Sunderland.
While the young midfielder’s contract includes a 40 million euro release clause, his father, Mark Bellingham, had reached a verbal agreement with Sunderland, allowing a potential move for a reduced fee. Dortmund are pushing for a deal worth 25 million euros, with an additional 5 million euros in potential add-ons.
Bellingham enjoyed a standout season with Sunderland in England’s Championship, contributing seven goal involvements across 40 matches. His efforts played a key role as the Black Cats secured promotion to the Premier League after an eight-year absence.
His impressive form also earned him the Championship’s “Young Player of the Season” award for the 2024/25 campaign.
RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt had shown strong interest in the versatile midfielder, but both clubs were informed of his decision to join Dortmund. “Jobe has the potential to be a game-changer,” a source close to the negotiations revealed to Sky Germany. “Dortmund have a clear vision for him, and the family connection to the club made it a compelling move.”
Borussia Dortmund have expressed their excitement on X, posting: “We’re thrilled to be in advanced talks for Jobe Bellingham! A bright talent with a big future ahead. #BVB #NewEra.”
Meanwhile, Sunderland shared their pride, stating on X: “Jobe has been phenomenal for us. We wish him the best as discussions progress. #SAFC #Proud.”
The move marks a significant step for Bellingham, who appears ready to embrace the challenge of the Bundesliga. Fans are eagerly awaiting official confirmation as Dortmund and Sunderland work to finalise the deal. This transfer could signal the start of another Bellingham legacy in Germany!
