Transfer News: Gabadinho Mhango Set to Depart Marumo Gallants

Veteran Malawian international and former Orlando Pirates and Moroka Swallows attacker, Gabadinho Mhango, is poised to leave Marumo Gallants when his contract expires at the end of the current 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.

This marks the end of a single-season stint for the prolific forward with the Bloemfontein-based side.

Mhango joined Gallants after the club acquired Moroka Swallows’ top-flight status due to financial difficulties. He was one of several players who made the switch, and initially, he enjoyed a promising start under then-head coach Dan Malesela.

Throughout the season, the 32-year-old has featured in 25 matches across all competitions for Gallants, contributing five goals and one assist.

That being said, Mhango’s playing time has significantly diminished in recent weeks under current head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

In Gallants’ last five league matches, he has made only one appearance, coming off the bench as a second-half substitute. This notable reduction in minutes has fueled speculation about the future of the former AmaZulu FC talisman.

His agent, Mike Makaab, has now confirmed the impending departure to FARPost, stating, “I can tell you that Gabadinho Mhango will leave Marumo Gallants at the end of the season and join a new club,” Makaab remarked.

“When you look at Mhango and how he has performed at his club, he has given it his all, but he will definitely leave at the end of the season.”

Meanwhile, Marumo Gallants are intensely focused on their final league match as they push for a top-eight finish, which would secure qualification for next season’s MTN8 tournament. They currently sit 10th on the league table with 31 points from 27 matches.

Gallants will face Magesi FC in their crucial final Premiership game at the Seshego Stadium in Polokwane this coming Saturday, May 24, as they aim to climb into the top half of the log.
