Transfer News: Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom secures new club

Highly-regarded former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom has officially embarked on a new chapter in his career, signing with Vietnamese V.League 1 champions Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC.

“Welcome, Kyle Hudlin and Njabulo Blom, to the big Southern Blue Steel family,” read an enthusiastic statement from Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC, signaling their excitement about the new additions.

A New Adventure in Southeast Asia

Blom, born on December 11, 1999, is a talented South African midfielder who has also proudly represented the South African national team, Bafana Bafana. His most recent club stint was in Major League Soccer (MLS) with St. Louis CITY SC before his return to South Africa on loan.

He now joins Kyle Hudlin, a towering 2.01m (6ft 7in) forward born on June 15, 2000, who previously played for Huddersfield Town B and Newport County in England.

Blom’s career has seen a few significant twists since he emerged from the youth ranks at Kaizer Chiefs, where he was once considered a bright prospect.

After a promising start in the United States with St. Louis CITY SC, where he initially impressed with his performances, he was loaned back to his former club, Kaizer Chiefs, for the 2024/25 season.

However, the Soweto giants ultimately decided against making his loan move permanent, reportedly due to a perceived dip in form. During his second spell with the Chiefs, Blom featured in 19 matches, starting in 10 of them, and was utilized in various roles, including both right-back and defensive midfield.

With Kaizer Chiefs opting not to exercise their purchase option, Blom now looks to revitalise his career and regain his best form with Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC in Southeast Asia.

This move represents a significant step in his journey as he aims to establish himself and contribute to the Vietnamese champions’ continued success.
