Transfer News: Agency Confirms SuperSport Teenager’s Talks with Overseas Club

SuperSport United is in discussions with an overseas club for one of their promising teenage talents.

Gil Vicente, a club in Liga Portugal, has made an official offer to SuperSport United for 17-year-old midfielder Manelisi Mazibuko, according to Transfermarkt South Africa. According to FARPost, the decision now rests with SuperSport United’s CEO, Stan Matthews.

This interest comes just six months after Mazibuko signed his first professional contract with Matsatsantsa. Scouts from Gil Vicente were reportedly in South Africa during the No Limits Atlas Showcase held at Balfour Park from December 6 to 8, 2024.

Although Mazibuko signed his professional contract in August 2024, he has yet to make his debut in the Betway Premiership. The left-footed midfielder is known for his incredible pace, excellent ball control, and strong finishing ability. He can play both in midfield and on either wing, and has a knack for scoring stunning free-kicks.

The player’s agency, P Management Sports, confirmed the ongoing talks between the two clubs on X, expressing hope for a resolution soon. They also mentioned that Mazibuko, who turns 18 in March, is eager to pursue his dream of playing in Europe.

“We are hopeful that Gil Vicente and SuperSport United will come to an agreement soon, allowing Manelisi ‘Sugar’ Mazibuko to fulfill his dream of playing in Europe. Manelisi turns 18 next month and will be eligible to sign a professional contract,” the agency wrote.

SuperSport United has a history of allowing players to pursue European careers. At the end of the 2023/24 season, the club sold another teenager, Shandre Campbell, to Club Brugge.

Campbell spent time in Belgium’s Challenger Pro League with Brugge’s youth team, Club NXT, before recently being promoted to the senior squad.

Mazibuko will be hoping for a similar path to Europe, but it remains to be seen whether the two clubs will finalize an agreement.
