Mamelodi Sundowns stand on the cusp of an unprecedented eighth consecutive Betway Premiership title.
Their upcoming clash against Chippa United at the Buffalo City Municipality Stadium tomorrow evening presents them with the golden opportunity to seal the crown.
Indeed, this marks the second meeting between the two sides within a week and follows Masandawana’s 3 nil triumph in the reverse fixture.
Despite a temporary setback in the form of a loss to Orlando Pirates, Sundowns have demonstrated their championship mentality by rebounding with four consecutive league victories, showcasing their attacking prowess with an impressive tally of 11 goals scored during this period.

Leading the pack by a significant 15-point margin, Masandawana require a mere single point from their midweek fixture against the Chilli Boys to mathematically secure their 18th league title in the history of South African football.
Speaking ahead of the game, Mamelodi Sundowns’ head coach, Miguel Cardoso, addressed the looming prospect of clinching the title.
“Obviously, be honest in the way we play the next two matches and it’s a big responsibility that we have ahead. Regarding more than that, I would like to leave it for the moment that we really become champions, because at the moment there’s no time for that.
“We need to really focus ourselves in what we have to do because no one wants to know that we are two matches from the end and make a different image.”
Meanwhile, Chippa United faces a contrasting reality. The Chilli Boys are currently enduring a five-game winless streak in the Betway Premiership, a run that includes a recent 3-0 defeat at the hands of the very same Mamelodi Sundowns last Wednesday.
Mamelodi Sundowns’ dominance this season is further underscored by remarkable statistical achievements. They have become the first team in the 30-game PSL era to surpass 60 goals in a single season.
Furthermore, their home form has been impeccable, having won all 13 of their league matches played at home this season (P13 W13 D0 L0), extending their own record for the most consecutive home wins in PSL history.
Kick off in East London is set for 19h30 on Wednesday, 14 May 2025.
