The Soweto Derby fever is on the horizon and if the recent atmosphere at Moses Mabhida Stadium is any indication, the Orlando Pirates faithful are walking with a distinct swagger.
On one side, you have a Buccaneers squad that just tore through TTM like a whirlwind; on the other, an Amakhosi side that has found its grit on the continental stage.

When a Bucs fan asks, “Why should I be afraid?” and a Chiefs fan responds, “It’s not even close,” you know we are in for a classic. The end of the month can’t come soon enough.
The SBN FanCam was on hand to have a look at the “he said, she said” currently fueling the fire in the streets and in the stands.
The Pirates Camp: “Bring Them on Tomorrow”
If you want to know how Orlando Pirates fans are feeling, just look at VANDAM 95. Standing tall at Moses Mabhida Stadium ahead of a 4-1 clinical dismantling of TTM, he wasn’t just happy—he was ready for war.
“We can play against Kaizer Chiefs tomorrow!” he declared, echoing the sentiment of a fan base that believes their team is currently untouchable. To the Mighty Buccaneers supporters, the emphatic scoreline wasn’t a peak; it was a warning shot.
The Coach’s Perspective:
Interestingly, Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou is the one keeping everyone grounded.
While fans are rejoicing in full, he’s looking at the missed chances. “We could have scored more,” Ouaddou remarked.
Kaizer Chiefs Response: “Not Even Close”
Across the divide, the Amakhosi faithful are watching the Pirates’ celebrations with a collective “is that all?”. Not to be outdone, the Kaizer Chiefs faithful are drawing confidence from their own recent successes.
Ahead of their hard-fought 2-1 victory over Egyptian side Al Masry in Polokwane, the Amakhosi supporters made it clear that they aren’t losing sleep over the Pirates’ scoring spree.
While Pirates fans were loud and boisterous on the day, the Chiefs fans we spoke to were almost clinical in their dismissal of the Bucs’ hype.
One young supporter, flanked by his father and brother, didn’t even blink when asked if he feared the Pirates’ attack. He dismissed the threat of their Soweto neighbors with clinical precision: “Not even close, not even close. We will win.”
With both sides picking up crucial wins and the fans trading verbal blows, the upcoming Soweto Derby at the end of the month is shaping up to be more than just a match—it’s a collision of two South African fanbases who genuinely believe they are untouchable.
