DR Congo striker Fiston Mayele has set the rumour mill alight with a cryptic social media post, intensifying speculation around a potential move to South African giants Kaizer Chiefs.
The timing of his message comes just as whispers of a transfer to Amakhosi grow louder.
Mayele was instrumental in guiding Egyptian powerhouse Pyramids FC to their historic maiden CAF Champions League title, a significant achievement for both the player and the team.
Throughout the 2024/25 campaign, the 30-year-old showcased his goal-scoring prowess, netting an impressive 18 goals across all competitions, with eight of those crucial strikes coming in Africa’s premier club competition.

Mayele’s latest communication on social media has undeniably added significant fuel to the already burgeoning transfer rumours. The Congolese striker posted a message that has been widely dissected and interpreted:
“Two seasons with Pyramids FC and 41 goals in all competitions. Many thanks to the entire team and to all the people who helped me in everything. Thank God.”
This seemingly innocuous “thank you” note has been broadly interpreted by fans and media alike as a potential farewell message to Pyramids FC, suggesting an imminent departure.
While the post has certainly sparked a flurry of online discussion and speculation, it is crucial to note that no official confirmation of any transfer has been made.
Mayele remains under contract with Pyramids for another year, and the Egyptian club has, in response to the growing buzz, been swift to clarify their stance on their star striker’s future,
Speaking to WinWin, a source close to the club insisted that Pyramids have no intention of parting ways with the prolific striker:
“We have no intention of letting go of any key player from the team at the moment, especially Milei. The management wants to retain key players and reinforce the squad for the challenges ahead.”
The statement also confirmed that while Pyramids are looking to bolster their attacking options during the current transfer window, this does not signal Mayele’s imminent departure.
Mayele has been linked with Kaizer Chiefs for several months, with Soccer Laduma recently reporting that newly-appointed Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi had traveled to Egypt – allegedly as part of a scouting mission focused on the Congolese hitman.
Nabi and Mayele previously worked together, a connection that has only heightened speculation around a possible reunion at Naturena.
With Chiefs desperate to rebuild and find a reliable goal-scorer for the upcoming season, Mayele remains high on the club’s radar. But prising him away from the reigning African champions may prove difficult.
As the transfer window unfolds, all eyes will remain on Mayele – and whether his next big move leads him to the PSL.
