Thabo Cele says he has no regrets about joining Kaizer Chiefs, even though the team is currently going through a tough period.
Amakhosi are struggling to turn things around with Nasreddine Nabi at the helm having joined at the start of the season. The Tunisian coach brought his own technical team and signed six new players before the season kicked off.
He further bolstered his squad with three new players during the January transfer window, including Cele, who joined after parting ways with Russian side Fakel Voronezh.
Chiefs are currently eighth on the Betway Premiership standings with 29 points, having won 8 games, drawn 5 games and succumbed to 10 losses in their 23 opening games.
Despite the lack of success, Cele remains fully committed towards his decision to join the club and is hopeful that they will turn the situation around.
“From the first time I stepped in here, in the village, I felt it that it was the right decision for me and I still feel like that,” he said during Thursday’s press conference.
“As much as it’s challenging but it’s something that you want and it’s something that gives you fire so that you can share it with others. Imagine if you achieve something with the club at this time, it would be massive for me and my people and for everyone, so I feel like it is the right choice for me, it was and it still is.
Cele revealed that his love for Amakhosi stemmed from his childhood days. It’s a team that he grew up supporting.
“I love the club just like any other fan who loves the club. It’s something that’s been there’s a connection.
“I always had this connection with the club even growing up with my friends, if one of my friends had the Kaizer Chiefs jersey we would be jealous of him.
“It’s a club that I always, even overseas, sometimes you see these boys who play for Benfica or Porto they don’t hide that they love the club. I feel like that too. It’s something natural for me to express the way I’m expressing,” he concluded.
The 28-year-old has brought stability to Chiefs’ midfield and has been a consistent figure. His impressive showings won him the Man of the Match award during their 3-1 win over Stellenbosch FC in the quarterfinals of the Nedbank Cup.
They are set to host TS Galaxy on Saturday at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium. The game comes at the back of a 2-0 loss against Richards Bay, which extended their winless run to three matches.
