Mamelodi Sundowns’ Mudau breaks silence on rumoured Orlando Pirates move

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Khuliso Mudau has finally addressed speculation linking him with a shock move.

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Khuliso Mudau has finally addressed speculation linking him with a shock move to rivals Orlando Pirates during the current transfer window.

Widely regarded as one of the finest defenders in the Premier Soccer League, Mudau’s consistent performances have long placed him among the most sought-after players in South African football.

His pace, discipline and attacking threat from right-back have made him a key figure at Chloorkop and a regular name in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana team.

In recent seasons, a potential switch to Europe had often been touted as the next step in his career, but that move has yet to materialise. Instead, the latest talk has suggested a possible local blockbuster move, with Pirates reportedly monitoring his situation.

Following Monnapule Saleng’s recent move in the opposite direction, another high-profile transfer between the two domestic giants would not come as a major surprise. The list of players to have represented both clubs already includes Teko Modise, Gift Leremi, Oupa Manyisa, Kermit Erasmus and Thembinkosi Lorch — and Mudau’s name has now been added to that conversation.

However, the 30-year-old has played down the speculation, insisting he is fully committed to Sundowns.

Speaking on the club’s social media platforms, Mudau revealed he first heard about the rumours through friends.

“I found out about that… I think one of my friends sent me something like that. [It was] saying I’m going to Orlando Pirates,” Mudau said.

“I don’t even know anything. My focus is on Mamelodi Sundowns. I’m 100% here, my heart is here, and I want to achieve things with the team.

“So, I want to help the team. I don’t know what the talks are about or what they are saying, but I’m here 100%.”

For now, Sundowns supporters can take comfort in Mudau’s words — with the defender making it clear that his immediate future remains firmly with the Brazilians, despite the growing noise around his name.
