Stellenbosch up to third with Sekhukhune win

Stellenbosch recorded a 2-1 Betway Premiership win over Sekhukhune United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday evening.

Lesiba Nku opened the scoring with 10 minutes on the clock ahead of a 31st minute leveller from Chibuike Ohizu.

Thato Khiba then secured a 70th minute winner to steer his side to third place on the league standings with 35 points from 21 games, one clear of fifth-placed Sekhukhune, who have played a game more.

Sekhukhune, under the leadership of new head coach Eric Tinkler, were soon behind as Nku headed home a good cross from Devin Titus.

Katlego Mohammed wasted a good chance to find a 20th minute equaliser when he blasted over as the ball dropped to him from a spilled Keletso Makgalwa shot.

But Ohizu, who was handed a start after his winner against Marumo Gallants on Wednesday, was in again for Sekhukhune when he rose highest to head home a Makgalwa delivery.

Thato Khiba was off target for Stellies with 60 minutes on the clock as the visitors tried to restore their lead.

But he made up for his miss just ten minutes later with a smart finish past a diving Badra Ali Sangare.

And the win was secured after Ellis Rammala’s late free-kick came back off the Stellies crossbar.
