Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker has hailed defender Thabo Moloisane as a “solid professional” after the centre-back marked his 100th appearance for the club.
Moloisane reached the milestone during Stellies’ 1-0 victory over AS Otohô in their CAF Confederation Cup Group C clash at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The team is currently using the 2010 FIFA World Cup venue due to stadium unavailability in the Western Cape.
Since joining the club at the start of the 2023/24 season, the Bafana Bafana defender has established himself as a key figure in Barker’s side.
He played a central role in Stellenbosch’s 2023 Carling Knockout triumph and featured in two MTN8 finals, both ending as runners-up.
“I’m very proud of Thabo; he had a tough season with Maritzburg United when they got relegated,” Barker said.
“We picked him up, and since then, Thabo has played 100 games. He is the only player to reach 100 who started in every game. Other players reached 100 but came on as substitutes.
“For him to start 100 games for the club is really good and a proud moment. He’s done really well for us.”
Barker added that Moloisane’s growth has extended beyond club level.
“Thabo has done very well to get himself in and around the Bafana team. He’s a solid professional, hardworking and very committed. He’s also a winner, and I am really proud of what he’s achieved in this time with us.”
With the milestone behind them, Stellenbosch now turn its attention to Saturday’s second group-stage fixture against Singida Black Stars FC in Zanzibar.
