Stellenbosch FC defender Rafiq de Goede says they are aiming take advantage of Orlando Pirates’ poor form when the teams meet in a Telkom Knockout clash at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday.
It will be Stellies’ first ever cup game in South Africa’s top-flight and they are looking forward to the battle against the Soweto giants, according to De Goede.
Pirates have not had the best of starts to the season as they currently sit in eight place on the PSL table, having only won twice in the league so far this campaign.
In quotes published in the Sowetan, De Goede said: “For us as newcomers, there’ll be no pressure on us. But we will go all out and give our best.
“We have every reason to believe that we can beat Pirates.
“I don’t see why we cannot beat them, especially with their latest form.
“We want to show that we are not in the big league by fluke. We are up for any challenge.
“Playing in a big competition like the Telkom Knockout is a big challenge.”
The Cape Winelands club picked up their first victory in the PSL when they beat Polokwane City 2-0 away from home two weeks ago.
