Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic rued his team’s second half showing as they crashed out of the Caf Champions League after a 2-1 defeat against Horoya FC in Guinea.
Pirates needed to beat their opponents to advance to the knockout stages and Sredojevic was happy as his team got to the interval with the scores still level at 0-0.
The hosts however struck twice in the second stanza, in the 56th and 72nd minutes, to go up by two goals and kill the game off before Justin Shonga pulled a consolation strike back for the South Africa side in stoppage time.
Sredojevic told the media after the game: “We had a wonderful first half. We started very well. We had chances.
“We found ourselves in situations where we could have put the opponent on the back foot. We were not good in the second half. Congratulations to Horoya”
Sredojevic insists though the Buccaneers will take plenty of valuable lessons from their continental campaign.
Pirates eventually finished third in the group, behind defending champions Esperance and Horoya to bow out of their the Caf Champions League.
Sredojevic continued: “We have learned a lesson. This was our tenth match after a six-year absence from the Champions League.
“We have learned so much in the qualifying campaign and group stage. This experience will help Orlando Pirates in the years to come.
“We will go in the right direction. We want to put the second star. We have learned our lessons.”
