South African youngster Shandre Campbell has signed for Belgian powerhouse Club Brugge

Belgian outfit Club Brugge have confirmed the signing of Shandre Campbell from SuperSport United.

The 18-year-old winger enjoyed a breakout year with SuperSport, having previously been named DStv Diski Challenge Player of the Season. He quickly became a key player for coach Gavin Hunt, contributing with five goals and six assists in 30 appearances across all competitions.

His performances earned him a nomination for the DStv Premiership Young Player of the Season award. Campbell attracted interest from several clubs, including Feyenoord and FC Midtjylland, but ultimately Club Brugge secured his signature.

While initially playing for Club NXT, Club Brugge’s feeder team in the Belgian second division, Campbell will be following a path taken by many of the club’s rising stars before making the jump to the first team and potentially bigger European clubs.

“Club NXT has strengthened itself with Shandre Campbell,” the club stated on Wednesday. “Shandre wants to continue to develop in Europe and finds a development program tailored to his needs at Club Brugge.”

SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews praised Campbell’s work ethic and believes this is a fantastic opportunity: “Shandre is a humble and disciplined player who works hard to improve. He has a unique chance at Club Brugge to play with and against the best in a world-class environment.”
