New Siwelele coach Lehlohonolo Seema is taking a measured approach to finalizing his squad, even with the new Betway Premiership season just days away.
The recently formed club, which acquired its status from SuperSport United, has seen a significant turnover of players, putting pressure on the coaching staff to assemble a competitive team quickly.

A New Era and a Thin Squad
In the short time since Seema’s appointment two weeks ago, Siwelele has lost several key players. Star defender Ime Okon moved to Hannover 96, Terrence Dzvukamanja joined Scottland FC, Siphesihle Ndlovu signed with Kaizer Chiefs, and veteran striker Bradley Grobler made the switch to Sekhukhune United.
Despite the exodus of talent and the looming season opener against Golden Arrows this Saturday, Seema remains unfazed. He’s focusing on building a balanced squad of around 28 players and believes a rush job isn’t the answer.
Speaking to the Sowetan, Seema explained his philosophy: “I’m not in a rush. I only had two weeks with the team. I’m happy with the way we are. The way they have progressed is impressive. The guys are willing to progress and listen.”
He also acknowledged that many of the initial player decisions were made before his arrival, and he’s been focused on evaluating the talent he inherited.
Trusting the Youth and Scouring for Talent
Seema has been particularly impressed with the young players who remained with the club after the takeover from SuperSport United, a team known for its strong development program.
“We no longer call them youngsters; some of them have already played in the Premier League,” Seema said. “The talent that I found there, I was happy to have a look at them and give them the opportunity.”
While nurturing this homegrown talent is a priority, the club is also actively searching for experienced players to fill the gaps.
Siwelele recently signed winger Koketso Sekgodiso from Highbury and is currently assessing former Marumo Gallants midfielder Xola Mlambo on trial. However, they opted against signing well-known trialists Keagan Dolly and Thabiso Kutumela.
Seema concluded, “There are good players who were there, but in football, you have to make decisions and get players that can help the team.”
