Orlando Pirates are reportedly preparing a new long-term contract for their goalkeeper, Sipho Chaine, to fend off interest from European clubs.
Chaine, who joined the Buccaneers on a three-year deal from Chippa United in September 2022, has established himself as a key player for the club.
Despite a rocky start, the 27-year-old has cemented his position as the first-choice goalkeeper for Pirates and has earned regular call-ups to the South African national team under coach Hugo Broos.
With his current contract set to expire in June 2024, Pirates are eager to secure his services for the future.
A club source revealed that an improved long-term offer is in the works. “Chaine has done well at Pirates, and the club wants to reward him with a new contract. I hear it’s a three-year plus one deal,” the source stated.
Chaine’s performances have reportedly attracted attention from European clubs, but Pirates are keen to keep him. “The technical team and management are happy with him. They want him to stay for a long time,” the source added.
Having started his professional career at Bloemfontein Celtic in 2016, Chaine made the move to Chippa United before joining Pirates.
His rise to prominence at the club has been swift, and this new deal aims to solidify his future with the MTN8 Cup champions.
