Sibanye Golden Stars coach Motsitse Molalogi addressed the gap between the Premiership and the ABC Motsepe League after his team’s 5-2 defeat in the Nedbank Cup.
Malinongwe Khoza opened the scoring for the Brazilians after just two minutes at Loftus on Saturday ahead of a Tashreeq Morris brace (15′, 41′).
The ABC Motsepe fought back in the second-half thpugh with both Mojalefa Mokhatla (54′) and Boeletsang Rankali finding a way past the Sundowns defence.
Their come-back was short-lived though as first Arthur Sales (69′) hit the target, before Kobamelo Kodisang completed the scoring with his goal in the 76th minute.
Molalogi explained that his team would benefit more by playing teams of higher quality on a more regular basis.
He said on FARPost: “The experience I gained from this match was that we don’t give our players enough chances in the ABC Motsepe League because our level [the league standard] is too low.
“So, when they get to play against a PSL side, our players become frustrated. We, as coaches, also experience stage fright and end up not knowing what to do in terms of the game plan because we are playing against a coach who has an impressive CV with all the coaching badges while I have nothing.
“The fact that I played football is the only thing that has helped me put the team together since 2018. The age restrictions in our league also contribute to a lack of experience. That is some of the challenges that we are facing in the amateur league.”
Sibanye are currently sitting in seventh place in Stream B of the SAFA Free State ABC Motsepe League with five points from four games.
