Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile says he’s determined to beat Collins Mbesuma’s 2004/05 goalscoring record.
Shalulile netted 23 goals in the recently completed DStv Premiership season where Sundowns claimed a fifth league title, with four of their matches remaining.
Mbesuma still holds the record with 25 goals for Kaizer Chiefs.
Shalulile still has a chance to add to his cup tally for the season when Sundowns face Marumo Gallants in the Nedbank Cup final at the weekend.
The Namibian said on IOL: “It’s just unlucky. He tried to pass it hard but it’s just unlucky. At the end of the day things happen for reasons. Maybe next year I will score more goals.
“I just want to say thank you to the support staff, my teammates and all the spectators that supported me. I am grateful.”
Shalulile added: “I am not satisfied. I am going to keep on fighting. I am going to pass the 25/26 goal mark. That’s what champions do.
“They set new targets for next year. Set targets every opportunity you get to play.”
