Sekhukhune United replaces  Lehlohonolo Seema with Eric Tinkler

Sekhukhune United announced on Monday that Eric Tinkler has been appointed as the club’s new head coach taking over from the recently departed Lehlohonolo Seema.

The 54-year-old Tinkler started the season in charge of Cape Town City but was fired at the end of last year after a poor run of results.

Tinkler will be joined in Sekhukhune’s new-look management team by Paulus Masehe and Marc Van Heerden, who will be assistants, while Nascent Nkhwashu will be the goalkeeper coach.

Sekhukhune said in a statement: “Sekhukhune United Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Eric Tinkler as Head Coach, he will immediately take the reins and lead the team.

“Tinkler is an accomplished football coach, with over 30 years of experience in the game, he holds UEFA and CAF A licenses with numerous other prestigious coaching badges.

“The new Head Coach is no stranger to success, having previously won the MTN 8 and Telkom Knockout tournaments and reaching numerous finals in the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, and other domestic competitions.

“Eric can best be described as a forward thinking leader, who is ready to take on an ambitious team like Babina Noko to new heights.”

Speaking on Tinkler’s appointment, club chairman Simon Malatji said: “We are honoured to have an experienced mentor like Tinkler, in charge of our project.”

Sekhukhune are currently fourth in the league standings with 10 games of the season still remaining while they are also in the Nedbank Cup where they were due to face Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend but the tie was postponed.
