RULANI MOKWENA PRAISES SUNDOWNS CHAIRMAN FOLLOWING COACH OF THE YEAR NOD

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena praised chairman Tlhopie Motsepe and everyone involved at the club after winning Coach of the Season.

Mokwena, who collected the award virtually on Sunday night, now holds two Coach of the Season accolades, having secured his first as sole head coach last season (2022/23).

Taking the helm solo in October 2022, he successfully transitioned from the co-coaching structure previously shared with Manqoba Mngqithi, who jointly claimed the award in 2021/22.

The 37-year-old tactician orchestrated Sundowns’ historic seventh consecutive league title, guiding them within a hair’s breadth of an unbeaten season. Their sole defeat came in a heartbreaking 1-0 home loss to Cape Town City on the final day.

Despite this late stumble, they secured the championship with a staggering six matches remaining, shattering numerous league records in the process.

“I feel extremely privileged and humbled to receive the Coach of the Season award on behalf of Sundowns and everyone who has invested so much during this past season,” Mokwena told the Sundowns media department.

“Individual awards are only a reflection of the contribution of everybody else.

“A special mention to the chairman for his unwavering support and his dedication towards this club. Without him and his energy, love and support, we would not have had this historic and memorable season.

“Everyone has played an incredible role in making sure that this team is as good as it was this past season.”
