Rulani Mokwena comments on the possibility of joining Kaizer Chiefs

Son of the Soil: Egyptian Giants Target Rhulani Mokwena as Next Head Coach

Rulani Mokwena has opened up on the possibility of joining Kaizer Chiefs after parting ways with Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca towards the end of the season.

The former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns coach is currently without a job and has been linked with several teams in North Africa and Tanzania.

He has also been linked with the Amakhosi’s rivals, the Buccaneers, who are currently on the lookout for a new mentor following the departure of Jose Riveiro.

Amakhosi, meanwhile, are under the guise of Tunisian head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who ended his side’s long wait for a trophy with victory in the 2025 Nedbank Cup.

Mokwena told Marawa Sports Worldwide that he wouldn’t consider a switch to Chiefs with Nabi in charge of the team.

When asked about the possibility of joining the Glamour Boys, he said: “It can’t be about Kaizer Chiefs because they’ve got a coach.

“Of course it’s a great a club, it’s of course got the pressure of doing well also in the domestic league but I think that winning the Nedbank Cup and delivering the first title [in 10 years], and the way they did it, not only just winning it but the way they did it, beating other big teams, I think coach Nabi has earned credit.”

Mokwena added: “Sometimes as coaches we need that, we need credit sometimes. And I think he’s earned the credit to be given an opportunity to continue to resurrect Kaizer Chiefs.”
