Richards Bay hit with a FIFA transfer ban

Richards Bay has been hit with a FIFA transfer ban over unpaid wages to former defender Abdi Hassan Banda.

The 29-year-old Tanzanian centre-back spent the 2023/24 season with the Natal Rich Boys following his departure from Chippa United.

He only made eight appearances before leaving the club in June 2024 for Motsepe Foundation Championship side Baroka, ahead of a return to Tanzania and Dojoma Jiji.

Banda reportedly approached the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber over non-payment but the issue seemingly appears to be unresolved.

A FIFA statement, as reported by FARPost read: “In this context, it appears that, despite the decision, Richards Bay [the Respondent] has not complied with its financial obligations towards Abdi Hassan Banda.

“In this regard, we wish to inform the parties that a ban from registering new players internationally has been implemented by FIFA on the Respondent. The registration ban will remain active until the amount due is paid and for a maximum duration of up to three entire and consecutive registration periods.

“Lastly, the South African Football Association is requested to immediately implement on the Respondent a ban from registering new players at national level, if not done yet.”
