Revealed: The Reason Behind Harry Maguire's Absence from Manchester United's Pre-Season Tour

Manchester United have officially announced their 32-man squad for the upcoming pre-season tour in the United States, but one notable omission has sparked curiosity among fans — Harry Maguire will not be traveling with the team due to a personal matter.

The experienced centre-back did feature in United’s recent friendly against Leeds United, entering the pitch at half-time and later making way for academy talent Tyler Fredricson.

Despite his involvement in that match, Maguire was conspicuously absent from the list of players heading to Chicago for the Premier League Summer Series.

The touring squad reflects a dynamic mix of seasoned professionals, high-profile new signings like Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, and promising youth players such as Jack Fletcher and Sekou Kone.

Manager Ruben Amorim appears to be using the tour as a platform to integrate fresh talent while preparing the team for the upcoming season.

Injured duo Andre Onana and Lisandro Martinez will travel despite being unavailable to play. Martinez is continuing his recovery from an ACL injury sustained in February.

Five academy players have been included: goalkeeper Will Murdock, defender Reece Munro, midfielder Jack Fletcher, and forwards Ethan Williams and Bendito Mantato.

Williams spent the latter half of last season on loan at League Two side Cheltenham Town, while the other four were part of the youth team that reached the FA Youth Cup semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia have all been omitted from the travelling party.

None of them has been training with the first team, and all are expected to leave the club this summer.

United will be based at Chicago Fire’s training facility during the tour. Their first match is scheduled for Saturday against West Ham United at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
