Iranian giants Esteghlal have initiated talks to extend the contract of South African coach Pitso Mosimane, following a recent surge in form.
Mosimane, who assumed the reins late in October, endured a challenging start with three consecutive defeats. However, he has since guided the team on a six-game unbeaten streak, including three victories.
This impressive turnaround has prompted Esteghlal to approach Mosimane about extending his current contract, which has only been in effect for two months.
“I have spoken to the club’s CEO, and he is willing to extend my contract,” he said at his post-match press conference.
“I am here and I would like to stay in Iran, but there is no contract on the table at the moment and whenever my contract is ready, I will make my decision quickly.
“Esteghlal deserved a better situation. The team’s situation has improved and the players are working hard. I have no problem staying in Iran and I have no problem with the Iranian style of play.
He also addressed concerns raised about the conditions in Iran, stating, “I think more about football and if the conditions are good, I will have no problem. Some people said that the conditions in Iran are not good and did not recommend me to come, but I love Iran.”
Esteghlal CEO Farshid Samiei confirmed the club’s interest in retaining Mosimane and revealed that ongoing contract negotiations are expected to conclude shortly.
“I spoke with Mosimane last week and he expressed his desire to stay,” he told Varzesh3.
“The games are intense and we haven’t been able to talk properly yet. We will hold a meeting next week and talk to him about making the extension.”
