Reaction: "...the league is not over yet." - Bobby Motaung after Kazier Chiefs PSL double over Stellies

Bobby Motaung believes that Kaizer Chiefs are on the right trajectory under coach Nasreddine Nabi, but he stressed that fans need to remain patient as the Tunisian manager’s philosophy and approach take time to fully unfold.

Nabi took over the reins at Chiefs this season and, after a difficult start, has managed to guide the team into fourth place on the Betway Premiership table after 17 games.

The latest victory, a hard-earned 1-0 win over Stellenbosch on Friday night, was a testament to the steady progress the team is making under his leadership. January addition Makabi Lilepo had found the back of the net just four minutes into the game.

Nabi’s tactical adjustments have shown gradual improvement, and with January signings like Lilepo, Tashreeq Morris, and Thabo Cele, the coach has bolstered his squad with fresh talent, signaling a renewed sense of purpose at the club.

Motaung, speaking on SuperSport, emphasized that Chiefs’ journey under Nabi is a “long one,” acknowledging that while progress is being made, sustained success will require time and patience from both the players and the fans.

“To build takes time, it won’t be an overnight success and the league is not over yet.”, he said hinting that Chiefs are still working towards their peak form and that the focus remains on long-term growth rather than instant results.

“It’s a long journey ahead, but it is for these people [supporters]. They must enjoy because they travelled long distances from Johannesburg, Mpumalanga and Durban. They are here for fun and they must enjoy it.”

Motaung added: “We are not there yet, but we are cooking. We trust the process and need patience sometimes.” Amakhosi signed players like Lilepo, who has showed some good glimpses, Thabo Cele and Tashreeq Morris and Motaung asked for patience.

“Let’s see how they go, it’s still early days but there is a reason he signed them. Quality is what we wanted and you know this jersey is heavy.”

The win over Stellenbosch was another positive step in their campaign, and while Chiefs have a long way to go, Motaung’s words reflect the club’s commitment to building a competitive team that can challenge for silverware in the coming seasons.
