The deal is expected to be finalised before the transfer deadline tomorrow.
According to iDiski Times, the 26-year-old playmaker is set to arrive in South Africa on Monday after both clubs agreed on terms, alongside a personal agreement with the player.
Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has been vocal about the need for attacking reinforcements, and Santos, who is capable of playing as a number ten or as an inverted winger, has now been secured to strengthen the Brazilians’ squad.
Sources indicate that the transfer is valued at around R20 million. Santos, formerly of Benfica and Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer, has signed a “long-term” contract with Masandawana.
Since joining Guimaraes from MLS in July 2023, Santos has made 90 appearances, scoring eight goals and providing 16 assists. His creativity and versatility are expected to add depth to Sundowns’ attacking options.
On the international stage, Santos has represented Portugal from the under-16 level through to the under-21s. He was part of the squad that won the UEFA Under-17 European Championship in 2019, though he is still awaiting a senior national team call-up.
Meanwhile, the Brazilians are also said to be trying to lure in Santos’ countryman Miguel Resinho, who is expected to join the club as a free agent should the deal materialise.
