A Season of Domestic Dominance

Cardoso’s debut season in South Africa was a resounding success domestically. Under his leadership, Sundowns had a remarkable run in the Betway Premiership, finishing with 18 wins, one draw, and just two losses in 21 league games.

This dominant performance secured the league title with several games to spare. While the team fell short of winning the CAF Champions League, losing to Egypt’s Pyramids in the final, their domestic consistency was undeniable. Cardoso’s coaching prowess was also recognized throughout the season, as he earned three Coach of the Month awards.

A Recognition of Teamwork

Speaking on the club’s official website after receiving the award, Cardoso emphasized that the honor was a reflection of the hard work and dedication of the entire organization.

“Winning this award is obviously an individual recognition of a coach, but I see it in a wider perspective,” he said. “It reflects the work of a big group of people alongside the coaching staff and the players who basically allow any coach to be successful and fulfill the expectations of their careers.”

He made a point to dedicate the trophy to his players, stating, “Mostly, I dedicate this trophy to the players, but it also means that there is the staff of the club who also allow the coach and the players to perform.”

Cardoso also thanked the club’s management for their trust and his family for their unwavering support. “So I’m happy and I dedicate it to the management of the club.

Last but not least, I dedicate it to my family because they supported me throughout the years and they believe in me a lot. Winning this trophy is also a moment that we’re all together to celebrate me and my career,” he added.
