PSL announces players facing suspension ahead of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates clash

Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have been dealt a major blow with some of their key players set to miss out on the Soweto Derby showdown due to suspensions.

The Soweto giants are set to re-ignite their fierce rivalry on Saturday, 3 May, with kick-off set for 15:00 at FNB Stadium.

The Bucaneers were victorious in their last meeting with Amakhosi thanks to a last-minute penalty that was converted by Patrick Maswanganyi.

The win saw Pirates stretch their unbeaten run to four matches, Chiefs last claimed victory over their rivals in February 2023.

Prior to Pirates’ 1-0 loss to Sekhukhune on Wednesday, Tapelo Xoki, Thalente Mbatha, Patrick Maswanganyi, and Relebohile Mofokeng had all accumulated three yellow cards, and another booking would see them miss the highly anticipated Soweto Derby match.

Defender Nkosinathi Sibisi received a red card after accumulating two yellow cards during their match against Babina Noko. He is likely to be replaced by Tapelo Xoki or Innocent Maela.

On the Amakhosi side, Wandile Duba, who has been scoring crucial goals for Chiefs, will be serving a suspension after receiving a fourth yellow card during their 2-1 loss against Marumo Gallants.

Duba is likely to be replaced by Ashley Du Preez or Tashreeq Morris as Ranga Chivaviro has not been on the bench for a while.
