Kaizer Chiefs‘ forward Glody Lilepo has expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance during their pre-season tour in the Netherlands, emphasizing the positive strides they’re making as they gear up for the new Betway Premiership season.
The Amakhosi’s Dutch campaign began with a narrow 2-1 loss to Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem, followed by a 4-0 defeat against Utrecht.
Most recently, they suffered a 1-0 defeat to NEC Nijmegen, with Japanese striker Koki Ogawa netting the solitary goal. Chiefs are set to conclude their tour with matches against PEC Zwolle and FC Twente.

Despite the earlier results, Lilepo, a key attacking threat for Chiefs, is impressed with the team’s development. Speaking to the club’s website, he remarked, “We really played well in our last game.”
He elaborated on the focus of their training, stating, “So far we have focused a lot on physical training, having two sessions a day. The physical aspect always comes before the tactical and technical aspects of the game. That’s typical pre-season.”
Lilepo joined Chiefs from Valenciennes in January and quickly made an impact, featuring in 19 games across all competitions and scoring six goals, including a crucial one in their Nedbank Cup final victory.
Looking ahead to the remaining fixtures and the start of the new season, the DR Congo international highlighted their importance. “These two games are important. Especially with the Toyota Cup coming up later this month,” he noted.
Lilepo’s overall assessment of the Dutch tour is one of strong optimism. “The preparations in Holland have been very positive. We are training hard to be ready for the upcoming season,” he affirmed.
He also stressed the importance of tactical discipline: “Besides training hard, soccer is also about discipline, including tactical discipline. If you master that, you will succeed.”
He concluded by underscoring the vital role of a strong pre-season for trophy aspirations: “And if you want to challenge for trophies, one needs to have a good pre-season.
It’s as simple as that, there is no other option. We are gelling nicely as a team, including the new players. I really feel positive looking ahead.” Lilepo’s comments suggest a confident and cohesive Kaizer Chiefs squad building momentum for the challenges ahead.
