Orlando Pirates’ skilful midfielder Patrick ‘Tito’ Maswanganyi has shared insights into why he enjoys dribbling, revealing that Jose Riveiro values it highly.
Maswanganyi has become a fan favourite at Pirates due to his impressive dribbling abilities, which he believes benefit both himself and his teammates during matches.
“I have many different styles of playing. I can play without showboating, but I feel like when I do showboating, it puts me in the game,” Maswanganyi said on Bucs Camp on SuperSport TV.
“Sometimes, it helps my teammates get into the game as well because when I start doing something, the team begins to find its rhythm and build momentum. If the coach doesn’t see me showboating, he feels like I don’t want to play.”
Meanwhile, Riveiro understands the type of player Maswanganyi is and allows him to express himself on the field. However, he constantly reminds him that the primary objective is to secure victories.
“Tito is the type of player that South African football fans want to see on the field, especially in crucial games. He brings flair, the identity of our football at Pirates, and represents the roots of our football,” said the Buccaneers mentor.
“Tito comes from that background, so he must be himself. But at the same time, he must understand the bigger picture. We are in the business of securing three points and winning matches.”
The 26-year-old Maswanganyi joined Pirates in 2023 from SuperSport United and has since established himself as one of the key players in the Sea Robbers squad.
