Magesi FC head coach Owen da Gama remains confident that his team can improve their fortunes in the league despite their current struggles.
The Carling Knockout champions have had a challenging season, securing only one win in 13 matches, with eight losses and four draws. This poor run has left them rooted to the bottom of the league standings with just seven points.
Despite their recent 2-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns, Da Gama praised his players for showing resilience and fighting spirit. He believes that maintaining this determination will be key as they battle to escape the relegation zone.
“The boys are playing with a lot of pressure. When you’re down there, it’s tough, and they are putting too much pressure on themselves,” Da Gama told Supersport.com.
“If we can work hard and build on what we did in the first half against Sundowns – putting pressure on the ball – I think we’ll start to make a positive impact in the league.”
While survival in the league is Magesi’s top priority, the club will also shift focus to the Nedbank Cup, where they face SuperSport United in the last 32 round at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday.
A strong performance in the cup could be just what Magesi need to boost morale and momentum as they look to climb out of the relegation zone.
