Orbit College Latest News: "I'm happy we can see a glimpse of what we are trying to bring to the league" - Pogiso Makhoye Reflects on a Promising Start to Life in the Premiership

Orbit College’s coach, Pogiso Makhoye, is feeling confident about his team’s early form in the Betway Premiership.

The Mswenko Boys, who earned their promotion through the play-offs, have already shown flashes of their potential, and Makhoye is pleased with their progress.

Their debut season began with a 1-0 loss to AmaZulu, but the team quickly bounced back with a 1-0 victory over Siwelele, securing their first three points in the top flight.

They’ll now face a tough challenge at home against Sekhukhune United, a team that has already beaten Orlando Pirates and TS Galaxy this season.

A Team Built for the Top Flight

Makhoye believes his squad was ready for the Premiership long before they secured promotion. “We already knew that we were a team ready for the Premiership when we were chasing [league winners] Durban City,” he told the Sowetan.

He remains unfazed by their opening-day loss to AmaZulu, putting it down to bad luck rather than a poor performance. “We didn’t have a bad game,” Makhoye explained. “I think we were unfortunate that we conceded an own goal. We had big chances that we should have scored, so we were not worried.”

The coach credits his players’ experience for their smooth transition. Many of them have played in the Premiership for years, providing a solid foundation. The team also prepared for the challenge by playing friendly matches against top clubs like Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

A Glimpse of the Future

Makhoye is keen for Orbit College to bring something fresh to the league, and he feels their early performances have provided a preview of their philosophy. “We wanted to bring something new to this league and I’m happy we can see a glimpse of what we are trying to bring to the league,” he said.

The coach and his team analyzed their mistakes from the AmaZulu game, using it as a learning experience. “We sat down with the players and showed them the mistakes we made and where we needed to improve,” he noted.

Orbit College’s next challenge will be a monumental one as they face defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
