Obrigado: "At the end of the day, we are the coaches of Kaizer Chiefs - not the fans" - Kaizer Chiefs Assistant Coach Ben Youssef Addresses Mfundo Vilakazi's Game Time in PSL

Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has addressed the late introduction of academy graduate Mfundo Vilakazi in the team’s 1-0 win over Richards Bay, stating that the decision was purely tactical.

The 19-year-old midfielder came on in the 85th minute to a roar from the FNB Stadium crowd, who had been chanting his name throughout the match.

That being said, Ben Youssef was quick to clarify that the technical team, not the fans, makes the final call on substitutions and player selection.

“Even in the last game against Polokwane City, fans were asking about Vilakazi, but it wasn’t part of the plan,” Ben Youssef explained. “We manage our players carefully. We understand the situation, but at the end of the day, we are the coaches of Kaizer Chiefs – not the fans.”

A Perfect Start to the Season

The win against Richards Bay secured Kaizer Chiefs’ third consecutive league victory, a feat they haven’t achieved at the start of a season since their 2014/15 title-winning campaign under Stuart Baxter.

The Amakhosi have been impressive, with victories over Stellenbosch (2-0), Polokwane City (1-0), and Richards Bay (1-0).

The team has accomplished this perfect start without head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who has been on compassionate leave in Tunisia after a family emergency. In his absence, assistants Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze have successfully guided the team.

The good news for Amakhosi is that Nabi is set to return this week to lead preparations for their highly anticipated match against reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

“Coach Nabi will be with us this week to prepare for Sundowns,” Ben Youssef confirmed.

Blockbuster Clash on the Horizon

Kaizer Chiefs currently sit at the top of the Betway Premiership table and have yet to concede a goal this season.

Their impressive form will be put to the test when they face Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium next Wednesday, August 27. The match is scheduled to kick off at 19h30.
