Kaizer Chiefs‘ struggles in the Betway Premiership continue, as the Soweto giants find themselves in a precarious position despite having concluded their 28-match season.
For the second successive campaign, Amakhosi have failed to secure a coveted top-eight finish, and there’s a very real possibility their final standing could plummet even further than the ninth position they currently occupy.
This unfortunate reality comes after their recent 0-0 draw against Polokwane City on Saturday.

A victory for Lamontville Golden Arrows against SuperSport United in their previously abandoned match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, which is set to conclude today, would see Arrows leapfrog Kaizer Chiefs in the standings.
This would see Kaizer Chiefs fall to a morose 10th place on the Betway Premiership standings – a finish that would equal their joint worst ever in the club’s illustrious history.
Last season, Chiefs concluded the campaign in 10th spot, marking an all-time low for the club. This season’s equally disappointing finish represents only the fifth time in their extensive history that they have missed out on a top-eight position.
The Naturena based outfit concluded this season with a mere 32 points – their lowest ever points tally. That being said, it is worth mentioning that Nasreddine Nabi & his band of merry men played 28 league fixtures instead of the usual 30 due to Royal AM’s expulsion from the South African top flight.
Furthermore, this fixture carries immense significance for SuperSport United. Matsatsantsa currently find themselves in a perilous 15th place on the Betway Premiership log, a position that would send them to the dreaded promotion/relegation playoffs.
However, a draw or a victory in the remaining 45 minutes would see them rise to 14th place, allowing them to leapfrog Cape Town City. Such an outcome would allow SuperSport to avoid the playoffs, pushing the Citizens into a fight for their top-flight survival instead.
The second half is set to commence at 12h00 on Thursday, 29 May 2025.
