Chippa United have confirmed the departure of goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, drawing the curtain on his four-year stay with the Chilli Boys.

The Nigerian shot-stopper, who arrived at the club in 2022, departs after cementing his status as one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the Betway Premiership.

In an official statement, the club revealed that Nwabali requested an early release from his contract. Following deliberations, Chippa United agreed to honour his request. His departure comes just a day before the club’s Nedbank Cup clash against Durban City, scheduled for tomorrow evening.

The 29 year old shot-stopper’s impressive club form translated onto the international stage in 2025, where he represented Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.

He was named Man of the Match following a superb display in the Super Eagles’ third-place playoff victory over Egypt, a performance that further underlined his quality on the continental stage. That same year, his consistency was recognised with a nomination for the CAF Goalkeeper of the Year award.

“His contribution to the club will always be appreciated. The club wishes Stanley every success in the next chapter of his career and in all his future endeavours.”
