Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has provided a crucial injury update ahead of the team’s Last 16 Nedbank Cup clash with Chippa United on Saturday.
The Amakhosi will be without several key players due to suspensions and injuries, presenting a significant challenge as they aim to advance further in the competition.
Chiefs are determined to make the most of the Nedbank Cup, which is their last remaining hope of securing a trophy this season after an early exit from the Carling Knockout Cup earlier in the year. The squad will face the test of playing without some of their regulars, as both suspensions and injuries have depleted the lineup.
Nabi confirmed that captain Yusuf Maart will miss the game due to suspension, alongside a number of other influential players who are struggling with injuries. Midfielder Sibongiseni “Ox” Mthethwa is among the notable absentees as he continues to recover from an injury.
“For Saturday game unfortunately our captain Yusuf Maart is suspended,” Nabi stated during his pre-match press conference.

“Ox is still injured, he will not be part of the game. George Matlou has been training this week, him, [Dillan] Solomons and Dove [Edmilson], too. But we feel that Dove and Solomons they need more time training and friendly games to get used to the tempo to get themselves fit.
“But everyone else [is fit], [Wandile] Duba is still out and Ashley du Preez is still out.”
This update leaves Chiefs with a depleted squad, but the Soweto Giants will be looking to show resilience as they fight for a place in the next round of the Nedbank Cup and end their decade long trophy drought. Kick off at the FNB Stadium is set for 18:00 on Saturday, 15 February 2025.
