Kaizer Chiefs’ Bobby Motaung says they have been patiently waiting during the coronavirus lockdown but are now “in full swing” again.
As with all South African clubs, Chiefs have been out of action since March, when the 2019/20 season was brought to an abrupt halt as the COVID-19 lockdown was implemented.
Teams recently received the green light to resume training and are now preparing to finally finish the season, with the Premiership games set to resume on August 12.
“Of course we are happy that we are returning,” Motaung told TimesLIVE.
“And obviously we have been preparing since we were allowed to start training. So we are all in full swing.”
Chiefs are at the top of the PSL standings, with a four-point lead over Mamelodi Sundowns, and have eight games left to play as they hunt for the league title.
Motaung went on to state that Chiefs have not allowed the extended break to make them anxious as they have calmly waited for further instructions from SAFA and the PSL.
“I think we knew that protocols were to be followed. And we have got sensible leadership in football that has been dealing with this matter,” Motaung continued.
“So we have been patient at Kaizer Chiefs, looking at the regulations, looking at the changes that have been going up and down.
“We have always been patient and waiting for the right directions.
“So we were not really panicking as such. The players have been focused on the preparations. So it’s not like we have been poking our nose into the whole thing.”
He added: “From where we ended up [in March] we will have to go and forge on.
“It’s just that obviously it might have an effect because we stood four, five months without playing.
“But it’s not an excuse. We have to face whatever the challenge is out there. It’s the challenge that’s facing us – we have to go out and soldier on.”
