Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has stated that Themba Zwane is still far from being ready to return to competitive action.
The 35-year-old Brazilians’ playmaker has been sidelined for the past three months after being injured while playing for Bafana Bafana in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier away to Congo Brazzaville.
Cardoso is acutely aware if the importance of Zwane to Sundowns but admits he will be without the player for some time to come.
The Sundowns boss said on iDiski Times: “Themba is obviously very important for not only Sundowns football club but for South African football; a national team player, but no pressure he is recovering at home there’s still time to go.”
Cardoso most recently led his side to the knockout rounds of the CAF Champions League, while they also sit on top of the Betway Premiership, ahead of Orlando Pirates by three points.
The head coach added: “It’s a very strong injury, very hard injury quite severe. He is recovering well according to the program but there’s still time to go for sure.”
Sundowns are next in action away to Magesi in the league on Wednesday.
