Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp believes it’s crucial for Amakhosi to keep their feet on the ground and take the season one game at a time.
Chiefs were dealt a humbling defeat by Maritzburg United in the Telkom Knockout semi-finals but bounced back in style against Stellebosch FC on Wednesday night, thrashing them 4-0 at Cape Town Stadium.
Middendorp is convinced that unrealistic expectations will negatively impact Chiefs’ season and he wants to keep the players focused on the job at hand.
“I was quite irritated to hear some comments inside the club totally confusing,” Middendorp told SuperSport TV.
“I think actually each and everybody, fans, technical team, management, should be humble. To say we’re coming out of a season position nine, not achieving anything, and we should not run away and carry away just [because] we have the expectation, we have a history.
“I think it’s absolutely important that we’re staying humble and healthy with the situation we’re in and go with the right attitude to the next game and not criticising and destroying ourselves with a useless attitude and think we’re on cloud nine.”
