Marumo Gallants midfielder Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo has revealed how he has adapted to his new role at the Bloemfontein-based club.
The 30-year-old rejoined Gallants this season on a free transfer after parting ways with Orlando Pirates, where he enjoyed a successful three-year stint, winning three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cups.
At Pirates, Ndlondlo made 65 appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing three assists.
Since returning to Gallants, Ndlondlo has quickly regained his form, netting three goals in 12 matches across all competitions.
His goals have been crucial in guiding the team to the Carling Knockout Cup final, where they are set to face his former club, Orlando Pirates, at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on December 6.
Speaking to FARPost, Ndlondlo opened up about playing in an advanced false nine role-a position he experimented with during his final days at Pirates in friendly matches.
“The position that I’m playing is something that I’m familiar with. During my last days at Pirates, I used to play as a false nine in friendly matches,” Ndlondlo said.
“When I came here at Marumo, the coach [Alexandre Lafitte] told me he would use me in that role because of my qualities. He said I could help the team both create and score goals.”
“I told him I have no problem with that because the most important thing is the team. They’re giving me the opportunity to showcase my talent, so I want to make the most of it. And it’s working well for me because I’m scoring goals.”
With Ndlondlo thriving in this advanced role, Gallants will be hoping his creativity and goal threat can steer them to silverware as they prepare to face Pirates in the Carling Cup final.
