Marumo Gallants have announced the appointment of Alexandre Lafitte as the club’s new head coach.

The 28-year-old Frenchman joins the Betway Premiership side as a replacement for Abdeslam Ouaddou, who left to join Orlando Pirates.

He arrives as a league champion, having led Stade Abidjan to the Ivory Coast Ligue 1 title and the group stages of the CAF Champions League last season and previously worked as an assistant with French fifth-tier league side Gueugnon.

A club statement read: “Marumo Gallants FC confirms the appointment of Lafitte Alexandre as the club’s new Head Coach.

“The 28-year-old French coach brings a strong track record in leading teams in both France and Cote d’Ivoire. Alexandre most recently managed Stade d’Abidjan, where he guided the team to the Ivorian League title and qualification for the CAF Champions League group stages in the 2023/24 season.”

Gallant’s President Abram Sello added: “Coach Lafitte has a clear understanding of the direction we are taking as a club. He joins ahead of pre-season, which is critical for continuity and alignment with our objectives.”

Lafitte became the youngest ever coach of a professional top-flight team when he was appointed by Abidjan as a 25-year-old in 2023.
