Manqoba Mngqithi laments missed chances as Golden Arrows lose to Orlando Pirates

Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi was disappointed to lose 2-1 to Orlando Pirates on Tuesday after creating more than enough chances to come out on top.

Abafana Bes’thende have struggled for results in the Betway Premiership in recent weeks, but were putting their opponents under all sorts of pressure in the first half at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

They ultimately conceded in the 51st minute to a Patrick Maswanganji goal, but soon equalised through Siyanda Mthanti just eight minutes later.

However, their missed chances would come back to haunt the home team as Tshegofatso Mabasa rifled home a 72nd-minute winner.

The result left Arrows in 14th place on the league standings, just three points better off than Cape Town City in the relegation/promotion play-off places.

Speaking after the game, Mngqithi told SuperSport: “It was so unfortunate. I think we had a very good first half where I can think we could’ve scored as many goals as we could imagine against a very good team.

“But unfortunately, when you don’t take your chances in football, you’ll get punished.

“Second-half, I think it was evenly balanced. We had moments, they had moments, but they were a little bit clinical in their chances and credit must be given to them.

“I think they used their chances very well but I’m very proud of how the boys have come out in this match.

“The energy levels were very good; the intensity was at the right level. We played the ball I think the way we should be playing week in and week out.

“And again, another week of missed chances.”
