Brazilian winger Antony has hailed his January loan move to Real Betis as the best decision he’s ever made, after a difficult stint at Manchester United.
The 25-year-old joined Real Betis on loan at the start of the year, hoping to rediscover his form after a disappointing run at Old Trafford, where he managed just one goal this season.
Signed for a hefty 85-million-pound fee, Antony struggled to meet expectations at United, leading to mounting pressure and criticism.
However, since arriving in Seville, Antony has experienced what he describes as a “renaissance”. In 20 appearances across all competitions, the winger has scored seven goals and provided four assists, playing a key role in Betis’ attacking resurgence.
“The best decision I’ve ever made was coming to Betis,” said Antony.
“I’m happy – and when I’m happy, things go well. It’s very early. I don’t know what’s going to happen but I’m very happy here.
“Although I know how talented I am, I prioritised going where I knew I’d be happy, even though I had better offers. It’s important to score goals and provide assists but being happy is even more important.”
The Brazilian has not ruled out an extended stay in Spain, expressing openness to remaining with the La Liga side beyond the current campaign.
